The 1994 agm in United Kingdom was hosted by Key Air & Sea Ltd.
The first meeting of the European Freight Forwarders Association was almost the last.
Following a conversation between Barry Birdsall from UK and Frans de Smedt from Belgium, a small group of freight agents agreed to meet in Windsor, UK for the first EFFA Conference. The group stayed at the Harte and Garter Hotel opposite Windsor Castle, which at the time was a budget hotel in a wonderful location.
The meeting room was booked for the Saturday morning and an agenda was drawn up. Being the first meeting and the first time most of the agents had met face to face nobody wanted to discuss the topics. The agenda that was meant to cover the whole day was quickly covered and it looked like we would spend the rest of the day in silence. We heard some activity outside and went out onto the balcony to see what was happening. It was the changing of the guard at Windsor Castle and our vantage point on the balcony gave us an excellent view.
When we returned to the meeting room it was apparent that there was a more relaxed atmosphere. It was agreed that we would start the meeting again. This time there was full discussion on the issues and the meeting went on for rest of the day.
Without the break to see the changing of the guards EFFA would not be here today.
